Will there be an option for cropping? For instance so we can cut out the black frames that surround a wide screen video to save space since it will only have to compress video.

batch and merge
Like others, I wish I could drag and drop my HF10 AVCHD (m2ts, MTS, TS,... or directly the folder) files either to batch or to merge files. For the moment I use tsmuxer to merge files in ts format and after I transcode each files with badaboom. May be in the future, we could select AVCHD folder like the video_TS folder ?
Really could use that batching right about now...
I know that you're "working on it," but even if you've got a beta version, I -really- could use batch encoding now. I've got 40 hours of files, and I need to create DVD, 720p, and 1080p versions. My alternative option is MediaCoder, and while it supports CUDA, MediaCoder's implimentation simply isn't fast enough. (I might as well render in x.264)
Is there a beta build you guys have in house that you could send to me? brian.boyko@gmail.com
On the same boat here - Batch / Command Line
I'm on the same boat here. I really need this batch implementation. So far I have tried the software and I truly love it. But the kind of processing I make is of several files (around 1/2 and 1 hour each) and this batch limitation is the only thing stopping me from buying it. Really.
I Would definitively like to see other minor improvements like been able to read from Real Media files *.rmvb and been able to include captions or subtitles on the converted DVDs, but the command line or batch implementation is really my deal breaker.

Re: feature request
me, too.
I need ...
- crop
- batch transcoding (and auto-shutdown when done)
- Command Line Interface
- avs(avisynth) file input support (without external utility like avfs)
- ts/m2ts(MPEG2-TS) [MPEG-2 + AAC Audio] file input support (without freezing)
- multi-byte character support in filename
- "High Profile" with interlaced coding
Some other feature
Some other feature requests:
1) An 848x480 option - I like to use Badaboomit to archive videos that I've created, and it's nice to have something at 848x480 so that I have a source file to burn to a 720x480 anamorphic 1.2 aspect ratio DVD. Right now my choices are overkill 960x540 or 720x404
The rest of my features all have to do with YouTube.
2) Automatic File Splitting every 10 minutes. I often record hour-long comedy videos - I end up having to split them all up manually and render in itty bitty bits out of Vegas before sending it to Badaboom. Since Badaboom has no queuing functionality, this gets very tedious.
3) Queuing functionality! Having to sit there and babysit the darn thing, feeding it a new file every 5 minutes, somewhat defeats the purpose of having a faster render!
4) Concatenation - Similarly, sometimes I like to join files together - for example, when my camera (which records to AVCHD) breaks into a new file after 2GB. In my archives, I'd like to have it as one file, and it would be neat to have some sort of concatenation ability.
Joining MP4 files
Brian, you might try using a freeware utility like YAMB for your needs, either before you do the transcode or after. I have never seen any transcoder that can splice files together, and I've used Handbrake, Nero Recode, etc. I have a feeling we'll see a queue feature in some version down the line, but I'm STRONGLY in support of cropping. In fact, I stopped using my (full) version of BADABOOM because of the forced letterboxing. Since most devices can upscale and fit a picture, having rigid letterboxing prevents most devices from filling my widescreen TV. Until Badaboom fixes that, it's a useless product to me, no matter how fast it runs compared the tried-and-true (and superior, visually and in file size) Handbrake.
About letterboxing and other feature requests
I lie to Badaboom and say my Xbox 360 uses a 720x480 screen format, so my SD videos can stay at 720x480. Just like with other converters like WinAVI, that leaves blank space at the sides on my HDTV but that's no big deal. 720p videos are way too big to justify the improvements I can see.
And I do want a batch mode like WinAVI has, even if it ends up being the Badaboom program run from a command prompt. Badaboom [input file] [output file] which uses the last endcode parameters would be fine. That way there wouldn't have to be a preview window sucking up CPU time making a small version of the video I really don't NEED to be watching while it encodes.
Can someone work on the crash that happens almost every time I encode more than one video without shutting down Badaboom? Although one long video may have crashed anyway even with a restart.
And a 'clone input parameters' option, where the size and bitrate and all the other important details would be extracted from the video I'm encoding would be nice. Maybe borrow some GSpot code or something.
Thanks...
Thank you for your feedback
Thank you for your feedback everyone!
Batch encoding = by far our most popular request. I can't give a time line, but know that we are indeed considering all of these requests for future updates! Mikepaul, what kind of problems are you having with Badaboom crashing while trying to encode videos? I've done lots of testing with Badaboom that include running multiple copies simultaneously, encoding file after file after file, etc. I haven't run across any problems like that, can you give me more details as to what's happening on your end. Thanks!

If I had a small file with the defect in it, I could post it for you to download. I'll work on finding a way to cut a bad spot out of a WMV or something, but that might accidentally repair that section and make the exercise useless.
I saw past posts on crashes, but they might pre-date 1.1.1 so the validity as a current issue would be in question...
